TechnologyFor I dipped into the Future, far as human eye could see; saw the vision of the world, and all the wonder that would be.
- Alfred, Lord Tennyson The Science 7 / 7A curriculum will promote 21st century skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, and information literacy. The use of technology will be regularly incorporated into science instruction and student centered learning.
All middle school students in the Shawnee Mission School District will be issued a laptop computer for the 2017-2018 school year. Science 7 / 7A students can expect to use digital resources on a regular basis and must arrive to class with a charged laptop. Students will have access to the interactive electronic version of the textbook that includes the entire text, lesson extensions, videos and study aides. Many assignments will be submitted digitally through Google Classroom. Applications and Internet resources will be used to enhance student engagement and comprehension of concepts in science. Grading Policy I want all students to be successful in Science 7 / 7A. Successful students are informed students. Read all information boards in the classroom, check Google Classroom frequently, check Google Calendar on the team website or my Weebly Page frequently, and understand the grading policy. Details on classroom procedures and the grading policy have been added to the front of the ISN (Interactive Science Notebook) and are available on Google Classroom under "About".
In addition, check Skyward weekly for current grades and important information. Classroom ProceduresClassroom procedures and the grading policy are glued into the Interactive Notebook, pages 5-6. These are also available on Google Classroom under "About".
A signed safety contract must be on file to be eligible to participate in lab activities. Students will receive a hard copy of the safety contract in class. A digital copy is available on Google Classroom under "About". Test Reflection form for Credit Recovery
Digital Flashcards |
the textbookStudents have full access to the online interactive textbook. Click on the button for access to ConnectEd. A username and password are required. This will be discussed in class.
A classroom set of textbooks will be available for students to use while in class. Students also have the option of checking out a hard copy of the textbook to take home. I recommend you leave it at home until the next module is issued. There is no need to "lug"the book around in your backpack! NOTE- "My internet was down" or "I couldn't access the book" is not an acceptable excuse for not completing assignments. If indeed your internet service fails you, it is your responsibility to arrive early, or stay late, to use a hard copy of the book. Even better- check out a hard copy and keep it at home! Google Classroom will be the primary source for information regarding assignments in Science 7 and 7A (Advanced Science). Students will have access to Google Classroom on their district issued device and personal devices using their district username and password. Students and teachers ONLY can interact within the Google Classroom platform. However, parents/guardians can receive email updates of classroom posts and student progress on assignments with an invitation from the teacher. Please click on the Parents tab at the top of this page or click here for additional information and links for using Google Classroom.
